The Stage is Set

     It is August 18th and despite a year’s worth of planning, the final pieces of the Buster Bowl are finally falling into place. You would think it would not be so difficult to block off four days in October to golf, gamble, and drink with the boys, but for some, it was just that. Thankfully, with ample encouragement from their friends, Mags and Gabe did the impossible: they talked with their wives and got approval to attend this year’s festivities. It is still unclear what they sacrificed. Did they promise to take care of a few household chores for the next few weeks? Did Gabe promise his wife the money from his soda cans in perpetuity? Did Mags agree to hyphenate his last name? Who knows. All we know is that they ain’t leavin. Now, 15 of the 16 golfers are locked in for three days of golf, with the 16th (Foster) being questionable for personal reasons. A backup has been assigned in case Foster is unable to make it, though we hope he is able to attend for the duration of the weekend. Regardless, we, and more importantly the captains, now know who will playing.

Alongside knowing who will compete, we now know where and how much golf will be played. Thanks to Brandon “Karen” Bush, but no thanks to his incessant polls, all 72 holes of golf have been booked. Not counting a possible exhibition round preceding the draft on Thursday, we will be playing 36 holes on Friday, and 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday. While the formatting was just proposed yesterday, it was met with very little resistance. Thus, the rounds will be played as follows:

 

Round 1 (Friday AM) – Best Ball

Round 2 (Friday PM) – Scramble

Round 3 (Saturday) – Combined Best Ball

Round 4 (Sunday) – Singles

              All matches will be played in a match-play manner.

 

Folks, the time for talk is just about over. Only the specifications for the location of the draft have yet to be finalized, but it seems like the draft will be held at our Airbnb on Thursday afternoon. Additionally, it is unclear whether pairings for Friday morning’s round will be announced immediately following the draft or on the morning of the first 18. The good news is that we now only need to concern ourselves with these minute details instead of the bigger issues we faced for roughly 10 months. We are just over seven weeks away from our outing. Get amped. Put your noses to the grindstone at work. Become a regular at the driving range and practice green. Come ready to give it your all, because everyone else will. October 8th is GOONSDAY!

Meet the Captains

       Let me start by rattling off a few names: Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Paul Atreides, Agamemnon, Augustus. What do these men have in common? They were ruthless conquerors that won by any means necessary. They led from the front and set an example for their followers. Thus, their victories and achievements will echo through eternity. Now, allow me to produce another list of names: Adolf Hitler, LeBron James, Hannibal, people that hate on the Odyssey. What do these people have in common? They are the biggest losers ever.
